The 1949 Sugar Bowl was the 15th edition of the college football bowl game, played at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday, January 1. Part of the 1948–49 bowl season, it matched the fifth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners of the Big Six Conference (later known as the now defunct Big Eight Conference) and the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels of the Southern Conference (SoCon). Oklahoma would win the bowl 14-6 in an upset victory in front of a record crowd of 80,383 attendees.[1][2]
