Sir Alexander Wykeham Ellis KCMG (born 5 June 1967) is a British civil servant, currently Ambassador designate to Spain, scheduled to take up his post in Summer 2024.[1] He has previously been High Commissioner to India,[2] Ambassador to Brazil and before that Portugal, and Deputy National Security Adviser for the Integrated Review on diplomacy, development and defence.[3] Ellis was previously the Director General of the Department for Exiting the EU.[4] He had previously been Britain's ambassador to Brazil from July 2013 to January 2017.
Alex Ellis started as Deputy National Security Adviser for the Integrated Review on diplomacy, development and defence in January 2020. Prior to that he was Director General in the Department for Exiting the EU for three years.
