Alliston is an English surname, found mainly in North Essex and South West Suffolk.^[1] Variations include Liston and Alston, which can also be traced to the same area, as well as finding origins in other locations, as well as Elliston, Allaston, and Ellystone.

The surname can be traced to the village of Liston, which appears in the Domesday book, through the family that took the name in the late 12th century.
