Altercatio Ecclesiae et Synagogae

Start of the Altercatio in a ninth-century manuscript from Saint Gall

The Altercatio Ecclesiae et Synagogae is an anonymous Latin dialogue between Ecclesia and Synagoga, personifications of the Church (Christianity) and the Synagogue (Judaism).[1] It was written in the fifth century, probably in Roman Africa.[2] Throughout the Middle Ages, it was falsely attributed to Augustine.[1]

The fictional dialogue has a courtroom setting. It is a Christian apologia and a polemic against Judaism.[3]
