Carl Joseph Robie III (May 12, 1945 – November 29, 2011) was an American competitive swimmer, who swam for the University of Michigan and was first a silver medalist in the 1964 Olympics, and then a gold medalist in the 1968 Olympics. He was a three-time world record-holder in the 200-meter butterfly, continuing to lower his times from 1961-63.[1] After graduating Dickinson Law School around 1970, he practiced civil law in Sarasota, Florida.[2][3]
Living in Drexel Hill, he started his swimming career at nearby Philadelphia's Vesper Boat Club, under Coach Betsey Schumacher and Hall of Fame Coach, Mary Freeman Kelly Spitzer.[2]
