Chetan Maini (born 3 March 1970) is a co-founder and Vice Chairman at SUN Mobility and an Indian business magnate in the electric car industry. He is best known for building India's first electric car, REVA,[1] and as the Founder of Reva Electric Car Company Ltd, now Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, where he served as an advisor.[2] SUN Mobility, a joint venture between Virya Mobility 5.0 and SUN New Energy Systems, aims to be a provider of charging points and services to accelerate mass electric vehicle usage. Chetan is the director of Maini Group and co-founder of Virya Mobility 5.0. He is also an investor and on the board of several clean-tech start-ups.[citation needed]
From July 2013 to April 2015, Chetan was Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Technology and Strategy,[3] and deputy chairman at Mahindra Reva,[4] which he founded as Reva Electric Car Company in 1994. Chetan holds over 40 patents in battery and energy management systems in electric vehicle technologies. Over the course of 20 years, Chetan has developed six electric, solar and hybrid-electric cars in India.[5]
In 2009, Business Week magazine named him as one of India's "Top 50 Influential people".[5] He was the "Man of the Year" for Top Gear India in the year of 2014.[6] and he was also given the Innovation award in Energy and Environment by The Economist in London.[3][5]
