Conor D. McGuinness is an Irish Sinn Féin politician and a declared candidate in the 2024 Irish general election for Waterford (Dáil constituency).[1] McGuinness is a member of Waterford City and County Council. He was first elected in the 2019 Irish local elections and re-elected in the 2024 Irish local elections.[2][3]
He represents the Dungarvan-Lismore municipal district.[4] He is a board member of Foras na Gaeilge, the cross-border agency tasked with promoting the Irish language, since 2016.[5][6]
McGuinness is from Dungarvan and lives in the nearby Gaeltacht na nDéise Irish-speaking community.[7]
He previously worked as a constituency manager with the party's European Parliamentary team.[8][9] He was elected to Waterford City and County Council as a first time candidate at the 2019 Waterford local elections and is the Sinn Féin group leader on the council.[10][11][12][13]
McGuinness represents Waterford on the HSE Southern Regional Health Forum and represents the Dungarvan-Lismore municipal district on the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG).[14][15] He is a member of the Planning, and the Housing, Community, Sport and Recreation Strategic Policy Committees of Waterford City and County Council.[16]
McGuinness is a member of the European Committee of the Regions, which provides sub-national authorities (i.e. regions, counties, provinces, municipalities and cities) with a direct voice within the EU's institutional framework. He was appointed in January 2020.[17]
McGuinness is also a member of the Southern Regional Assembly.[18]
McGuinness was a member of the Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle (National Executive) from 2015 to 2019.[19][20]
