Deferribacter autotrophicus is the most recently discovered species in the Deferribacter genus, isolated from a deep sea hydrothermal field.[1] This motile, thermophilic, anaerobic organism stands out for its unique metabolic versatility, particularly its autotrophic capabilities which had not been previously observed in its genus.[2]
