Elliot Sperling (January 4, 1951 – January 29, 2017) was one of the world's leading historians of Tibet and Tibetan-Chinese relations,[1][2][3][4] and a MacArthur Fellow.[5] He spent most of his scholarly career as an associate professor[6] at Indiana University's Department of Central Eurasian Studies, with seven years as the department's chair.
