Englische Ansage

"Englische Ansage" (German for "English Announcement") is a one-person comedy sketch written by German humorist Loriot. It shows a continuity announcer who summarizes the plot of an English crime series, but fails because of the hard-to-pronounce names. Alternative titles of the sketch are "Inhaltsangabe" (Synopsis) and "Die englische Inhaltsangabe" (The English Synopsis).[1]

The sketch was first aired in November 1977 in the fourth episode of the TV series Loriot [de]. The announcer was played by Evelyn Hamann. A text version of the sketch first appeared in 1981 and has since been included in several anthologies of Loriot.

  1. ^ In Menschen, Tiere, Katastrophen and Gesammelte Prosa, the sketch is called "Inhaltsangabe". In Das Frühstücksei it is called "Die englische Inhaltsangabe". In Loriots Dramatische Werke it is called "Inhaltsangabe" or "Die englische Inhaltsangabe" depending on the edition. Loriots Vibliothek calls the sketch "Die englische Ansage", Loriot – Sein großes Sketcharchiv uses the title "Englische Ansage" and Loriot – Die vollständige Fernseh-Edition calls it "Englische Ansage (Inhaltsangabe)". The website loriot.de (Archived 25 October 2022 at the Wayback Machine) run by Loriot's heirs writes "Inhaltsangabe" (auch: "Englische Ansage").
