Erik Knutsson (Old Norse: Eiríkr Knútsson; c. 1180 – 10 April 1216), sometimes known as Eric X,[1] was King of Sweden between 1208 and 1216. Also known as Erik the Survivor (Swedish: Erik som överlevde), he was, at his accession to the throne, the only remaining son of King Knut Eriksson and his queen, whose name may have been Cecilia.
- ^ Referring to Erik Knutsson as King Eric X is a later invention, counting backwards from Eric XIV (1560–68). He and his brother Charles IX (1604–1611) adopted numerals according to a fictitious history of Sweden. The number of Swedish monarchs named Eric before Eric XIV (at least seven) is unknown, going back into prehistory, and none of them used numerals.
