Frederik Pleitgen (born 19 August 1976,[1][2] in Cologne[3]) is a German journalist and correspondent for CNN International.[4]
Pleitgen studied North American studies at the University of Bonn and at Free University Berlin.[5] Pleitgen also spent one year studying at the School of Journalism at New York University. He worked for German television broadcasters ZDF and RTL as well as German news channel n-tv before joining CNN in 2006.[6][7] In Paris, he covered the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo shooting.[8][9]
He is the son of German journalist and former director of public broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Fritz Pleitgen.[11]
