Fuel is an American rock band from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, formed by founding members guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell, vocalist Brett Scallions, drummer Jody Abbott, keyboardist Erik Avakian, and bassist Jeff Abercrombie in 1993 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After several independent releases, the band signed with 550 Music and Epic Records to release their debut studio album Sunburn (1998), which was supported by their first hit single, "Shimmer". The song peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100, while their 2000 single, '"Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" peaked at number 30. The latter, along with the moderate hit "Bad Day" spawned from the band's second album, Something Like Human (2000). Their 2003 single, "Falls on Me", led their third album, Natural Selection (2003), which was met with moderate success and followed by several lineup and personnel changes.

Fuel has had multiple videos in frequent rotation on MTV, performed on numerous live networks in the US, Canada, and Australia, and recorded songs for film soundtracks such as Scream 3, Daredevil, Godzilla, and A Walk to Remember. Sunburn has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), while Something Like Human has been certified double-platinum.

In 2010, Carl Bell and original vocalist Brett Scallions entered into a ten-year agreement where Bell leased the name and branding of Fuel to Scallions, (who had left the band in February 2006) and had been performing Fuel's music with his own band under the moniker Re-Fueled. This marked Bell's hiatus from the band and the official dissolution of the Angels & Devils-era lineup that featured the band's second lead vocalist, Toryn Green. This agreement ended in 2020 and the naming rights reverted back to Bell, who enlisted classic-lineup drummer Kevin Miller. Bell and Miller's attempts at reuniting with Scallions proved unsuccessful, with Scallions claiming he would never again perform under the Fuel name, thus Bell recruited members of Miller's regionally-successful covers band to round out the lineup.[1]

In 2013, "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" became the No. 6 Alternative Rock song of the past 25 years according to Billboard's Alternative Chart 25th Anniversary: Top 100 Songs.[2]
