Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and is one of the three national holidays in India. In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly declared the day as the International Day of Non-Violence.[1] Called the "Father of The Nation" by Subhas Chandra Bose, Gandhi espoused one of the most well known philosophies of nonviolent resistance[2] which gained independence for the nation of India from British colonial control.[1][3]
