Haemadipsa sylvestris is a species of blood-feeding leech recorded from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Indonesia.[1][2][3][4][5] A species of freshwater crab, Himalayapotamon atkinsonianum, has been recorded as a host.[6] The species is known to grow as large as 40 mm in length and 7 mm wide.[7] It is a lowland species, and closely associated with water; it lives near riverbanks and ponds, and may sometimes be flooded out in some regions.[2][5]
Moore (1927) refers to a freshwater crab (Potamon atkinsonianum) as a specific host of the leech Haemadipsa sylvestris.(Potamon atkinsonianum (Wood-Mason, 1871) is a synonym of Himalayapotamon atkinsonianum (Wood-Mason, 1871))
