Jnv Pfukhro Mao is one of the nine Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya established on nine different district of Manipur. It is situated on the hills of Pfukhro Village,Mao.It is run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, Government of India.The Samiti is further sub-divided into regions and JNV Pfukhro Mao comes under the Shillong region which is the operating centre for all the JNVs in the Northeastern India.As other JNVs, it is fully residential and co-educational school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.
JNVs exist all over India, with the exception of Tamil Nadu. There are approximately 596 JNVs across India (one school per district) as on 2014.
