John Lesley (or Leslie) (29 September 1527[1] – 31 May 1596) was a Scottish Roman Catholic bishop and historian. His father was Gavin Lesley, rector of Kingussie,[2] Badenoch.

  1. ^ This birth date is quoted by A. Laing's book (p. 125). It would only make John Lesley 68 at the time of his death though, whereas his epitaph states that he was 70. C. Leslie of Balquhain's annals (p. 402) place his birth in 1526 without any further precision.
