John George Schiechl (August 22, 1917 – February 11, 1964)[1] was an American professional football player who was a center in the National Football League (NFL) and the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). He played college football for the Santa Clara Broncos, earning consensus All-American honors in 1939. He was selected in the second round of the 1940 NFL draft.[2] He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.
Schiechl was born in San Francisco, California,[3] where he attended Balboa High School before matriculating to Santa Clara University.[4] He served in World War II for the United States Navy before rejoining the NFL in 1945.[5][6]
