Kdenlive (/ˌkdɛnˈlv/;[6][7] acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor[8]) is a free and open-source video editing software based on the MLT Framework, KDE and Qt. The project was started by Jason Wood in 2002, and is now maintained by a small team of developers.[9]

With the release of Kdenlive 15.04.0 in 2015 it became part of the official KDE Projects suite.[10]

Kdenlive packages are freely available for Linux, FreeBSD, and Microsoft Windows. As a whole it is distributed under the GPL-3.0-or-later license, while parts of the source code are available under different licenses such as GPL-2.0-or-later and GPL-3.0-or-later.[3]
