Koath is a notified area in Rohtas district in the Indian state of Bihar.

[1] Here is the residence of the well-known Bilgrami family, descendants of Nawab Syed Nurul Hasan Khan, an illustrious military general and aristocrat, who was brought up under the guardianship of Safdar Jung, the Nawab Vizier of Awadh. He hailed from a noble Sayyid family of Bilgram. He was known to have played crucial role in the battle of Buxar(1764), by being a mediator between Shuja-ud-daula and the East India company . For which he received the title of "Nawab" and "Khan Bahadur" from the Imperial Mughal Court. He also got large grants of landed estates and was made the Revenue supritendent of Shahabad(modern day Rohtas,Bihar), under the governorship of Raja Shitab Ray.

He died in 1794 and was buried in the family graveyard at Koath.

Syed Abu Mohammad Bilgrami was the last prominent scion of this family, who had been the sole proprietor of Koath and several neighbouring villages up until the abolishment of Zamindari in 1952. He had a large collection of rare Persian/Urdu literature at the library at his home.
