The Mhallami, Mahallami, or Mardelli (Arabic: المُحَلَّمِيَّة, romanizedAl-Muḥallamiyya; Kurdish: Mihellemî; Syriac: ܡܚܠ̈ܡܝܐ, romanizedMḥallmāye; Turkish: Mıhellemi) is an Arabic-speaking tribal ethnic group traditionally living in and around the city of Mardin, Turkey.[4] Due to migration since 1920 they have a large presence in Lebanon as well. As a result of the Lebanese Civil War, large numbers fled to Europe, particularly Germany. They typically identify themselves as Arabs, but are sometimes associated with other ethnic groups such as Kurds or Assyrian.[5] However, their historical roots are not definitively established.[4][6][7][8] They are Sunni-Muslims and primarily speakers of an Arabic dialect that has Turkish, Kurdish, and Aramaic influences.[4]
