Myzomela is a genus of bird in the honeyeater family Meliphagidae. h It is the largest genus of honeyeaters, with 40 species, and the most geographically widespread. It ranges from Indonesia to Australia and into the islands of the Pacific Ocean as far as Micronesia and Samoa. several species are named for the islands they were discovered or live on.
The genus was introduced by the naturalists Nicholas Vigors and Thomas Horsfield in 1827 with the scarlet myzomela as the type species.[2][3]
The genus contains the following 40 species:[4]
