Nalanda Institute is the first Buddhist college in Indonesia. With the noble ideal of fulfilling the need for Buddhist teachers to educate Buddhist students, the Nalanda Buddhist Education Fund Foundation established the Nalanda Buddhist College in May 1979.[1]
The college was formerly called Nalanda Buddhist College, also known as Sekolah Tinggi Agama Buddha Nalanda (abbreviated as STAB Nalanda), in Indonesia.[2] The change of status from an STAB to an Institute was officially stated with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia No. 452 of 2024 concerning the permit to change the form of the Nalanda Buddhist College to the Nalanda Institute.[3]
