New Tripoli (/trɪˈpoʊli/ trih-POH-lee) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lynn Township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 840.[4] New Tripoli is part of the Lehigh Valley, which had a population of 861,899 and was the 68th-most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. as of the 2020 census.
New Tripoli was originally founded in 1812 as Saegersville, but was changed in 1816 to New Tripoli in honor of the success of the American navy in 1815 during the Barbary Wars at Tripoli in what is now Libya.[5] Unlike how the capital of the country Libya is normally pronounced by Americans, the pronunciation of New Tripoli is with the stress on "PO", as many non-natives make the mistake of stressing the first syllable which will often be corrected by natives.
