Norair Hunani Arakelian, often cited as Arakelyan, (Armenian: Նորայր Հունանի Առաքելյան; 17 July 1936 – December 2023) was an Armenian and Soviet mathematician, specializing in approximation theory and complex analysis.[1] He was known for Arakelian's approximation theorem. Also, on the basis of his approximation theory results, Arakelian disproved an old conjecture of Rolf Nevanlinna from the value distribution theory. This and his other results Arakelian presented at the International Congress of Mathematicians at Nice in 1970. He died in December 2023, at the age of 87.[2]
