Opdyke West (pronounced "Oh-Pih-Dyke") is a town in Hockley County, Texas, United States. The population was 220 at the 2020 census. It takes its name from the nearby community of Opdyke, founded in 1925, which was named either for Charles W. Opdyke, railroad director, or for the family of W. A. Dykes, who established the first gin in the area by 1937. Opdyke West was incorporated in 1984.[4][5][6][7]
