Patricia J. Bauer (born 1957) is Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Psychology at Emory University. She is known for her research in the field of cognitive development, with a specific focus on how children develop their earliest memories and how their memory is influenced by parents, peers, and the environment around them. Her research has explored the phenomenon of childhood amnesia and how social, cognitive, and neural changes relate to the development of autobiographical memory.[1]

Bauer was awarded the American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the Developmental Area (1993)[2] and the American Psychological Foundation Robert L. Fantz Award (1993). Her book Remembering the Times of Our Lives: Memory in Infancy and Beyond was named Book of the Year (2007) by the Cognitive Development Society.[3] With Simona Ghetti, Bauer edited the volume Origins and Development of Recollection: Perspectives from Psychology and Neuroscience (2012).[4] With Robyn Fivush, she edited The Wiley Handbook on the Development of Children's Memory (2014).[5] Bauer has served as editor of the Journal of Cognition and Development (2005–2009), the Society for Research in Child Development Monographs (2013–2018), and Psychological Science (2020–present).
