• Israel–Hamas war
  • 2023 Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip
    • More than 190 Palestinians are killed and hundreds more are wounded by Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, including Khan Younis in the south. (Al Jazeera)
    • The United Nations say the fighting will worsen the extreme humanitarian emergency in Gaza. UN aid chief Martin Griffiths said that the people of Gaza had nowhere safe to go and very little to survive on. (Al Jazeera)
  • The United States provides BLU-109 bunker buster bombs and other munitions to Israel. Similar bombs made by the US were used by Israel in the Jabalia refugee camp airstrikes, including a strike that levelled an apartment block, killing more than 100 people. (Al Jazeera)

  • 2023 Paris attack
    • One person is killed and two others are injured in a knife and hammer attack near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The suspect is arrested by police. (Reuters)
• Moro conflict
  • Bomb maker Mundi Sawadjaan, a leader of Abu Sayyaf and suspect in the 2020 suicide bombings in Sulu, is killed by security forces during a military operation in Basilan, Philippines. (The Star)

  • Chilas bus shooting
    • Eight people are killed and 26 others injured in a mass shooting against a bus on the Karakoram Highway near the town of Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. (Al Jazeera)

• December 2023 Mindanao earthquake
  • A person is killed when a 7.5 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Mindanao, Philippines. Tsunami warnings are issued for the Philippines and Japan, but are later lifted. (Reuters)

  • The Pakistan Movement for Justice party appoints Gohar Ali Khan as its new chairman, replacing party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who remains detained on various charges. (AFP via The Daily Star)
• Human rights in Ukraine
  • Ukraine's security service stops former president Petro Poroshenko from leaving the country. Poroshenko's political party, European Solidarity, said he had scheduled meetings in Poland and the United States. (Reuters via France 24)
