• Russian invasion of Ukraine
  • Kharkiv strikes, Kyiv strikes, Odesa strikes
    • One person is killed and at least 38 others are injured in Russian airstrikes in Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Odesa, Ukraine. (AP)
• Terrorism in Yemen
  • A Yemeni government soldier opens fire on Saudi troops in Seiyun, Yemen, killing two and injuring one other. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the Houthis are suspected to be the perpetrators of the attack, however no group claimed responsibility. (AP)
• 2024 Mozambican general election, Human rights in Mozambique
  • Human Rights Watch reports that at least 34 people have been killed and at least 66 others have been injured in the past three weeks in police crackdowns of violent protests following the Mozambican presidential election. Mozambican police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters in the capital city Maputo, with the Army later deployed to end the protests. (Al Jazeera) (DW)
• November 2024 Amsterdam attacks, Antisemitism in Europe
  • Pro-Palestinian locals attack supporters of Israeli football team Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. after a match with AFC Ajax in Amsterdam, Netherlands, following instances of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab chants and vandalism by Maccabi ultras. At least 30 people are injured, with five hospitalized, and 62 people are arrested. Dutch authorities condemn the attacks as antisemitic with the government of Amsterdam subsequently banning protests and demonstrations in the city for three days. (CNN) (Al Jazeera) (Reuters)

• 67th Annual Grammy Awards
  • American musician Beyoncé receives eleven nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, making her the most nominated artist in the award's history with 99 total nominations. (AP)

Disasters and accidents

• At least two people are killed and twelve others are missing when a fishing boat capsizes off the coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. (The Korea Herald)

Health and environment

• Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest
  • The Brazilian environment and climate change ministry reports that deforestation in the Amazon rainforest decreased by 30.6% compared to last year, the lowest level in nine years. Additionally, deforestation in the Cerrado tropical savannah region decreased by 25.7%, the first decrease in five years. (AP) (Semafor)

International relations

• South China Sea dispute
  • President Bongbong Marcos signs into law the Maritime Zones Act and the Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act which defines the maritime entitlements of the Philippines and set designated sea lanes and air routes. China protests against the laws which is linked to territorial disputes in the South China Sea. (Reuters) (Nikkei Asia)
• Ukraine–United States relations
  • The United States lifts its ban on deploying military contractors to Ukraine, thereby enabling American companies to directly assist with the maintenance and repair of U.S.-made weapons, such as F-16 fighter aircraft and Patriot air defense systems. The U.S. says that its contractors will be positioned far from the front lines and will not engage in combat with Russian forces. (CNN)

    • A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employee is fired for having told relief workers to not aid those who supported then-Republican candidate in the upcoming 2024 United States presidential election, Donald Trump. (CNN)
• Security incidents involving Donald Trump, Iranian interference in the 2024 United States elections
  • The U.S. Justice Department announces that they have formally charged an Afghan national who confessed to a murder-for-hire plan linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeting president-elect Donald Trump. (CNN)
