Prabhat Roy (Bengali: প্রভাত রায়; born 1946 in Jamshedpore) is a former Indian director who is known for his work in Bengali cinema.[3][4] He received several awards including two National Awards and BFJA Awards.

He began his career as an assistant director in the early 1970s. He claimed to fame after his directorial venture Protidan (1983) starring Sharmila Tagore, Ranjit Mallick, Victor Banerjee and Naseeruddin Shah emerged to be a major box office success.[5] Other than feature films, he directed 16 telefilms and 3 TV series.
