Rayman (French pronunciation: [ʁemɑn]) is the title character and main protagonist of the Rayman series. He is an anthropomorphic limbless character with the ability to use his hair as helicopter blades and punch at a distance. Rayman first appeared in the 1995 platform game Rayman and since appeared in every games in the series. Rayman was created by Michel Ancel who thought that games needed a character who can perfectly connect with players. He was originally designed to have limbs, but due to technical problems, they were omitted.

Upon his debut title, Critics and fans have praised Rayman's characterization and his limbless nature which ultimately become his visual trademark. Multiple critics have discussed about Rayman for his weirdness, being a cult following, and one of the most well received video game character. Rayman also appears as a playable character within a downloadable content in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, as the game's director acknowledge his absentee and criticisms.
