Refugio County (/rɪˈfjʊər.i./ rih-FURE-ee-oh)[1] is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 6,741.[2] Its county seat is Refugio.[3] The county originated as a municipality of Mexico in 1834 and was classified as a county in 1837.[4][5]
