He became world champion in the Tornado class in 1976 and 1979.
White died just after sailing his Brightlingsea One-Design[2][3]
We are saddened to learn of the death of Olympic Tornado Gold medallist Reg White who died while racing his Brightlingsea One-Design last night. Born in 1935, Reg won a gold medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and was a world-renowned boatbuilder.
White died suddenly on the hard at Brightlingsea Sailing Club after finishing an evening pursuit race with his grandson, Fred, in a new clinker-built 18ft Brightlingsea One design, White Spirit. It had been named in 2009 and was almost identical to the boat White had first raced as a teenager 60 years before.
