Sharky's Machine is a 1981 American neo-noir[3] action thriller film directed by Burt Reynolds, who stars in the title role.[4] It is the film adaptation of William Diehl's 1978 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Gerald Di Pego.[5] It also stars Vittorio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles Durning, Earl Holliman, Bernie Casey, Henry Silva, Darryl Hickman, Richard Libertini, Rachel Ward and Joseph Mascolo.[4]

The film was released by Warner Bros. on December 18, 1981, and received mostly positive reviews from critics.[6] Ward was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress.
