Shen Youzhi

Shen Youzhi (沈攸之) (died c.9 March 478[1]), courtesy name Zhongda (仲達),[note 1] was a general during the Chinese Liu Song dynasty, who, in the final moments of the dynasty, made a final failed attempt to prevent Xiao Daocheng from seizing the throne.

  1. ^ According to Emperor Shun's biography in Book of Song, Shen Youzhi fled Yingcheng on the ding'mao day of the 1st month of the 2nd year of the Sheng'ming era, and his head was sent to Jiangling by the people of Huarong County on the ji'si day of the same month and year; the dates correspond to 8 and 10 Mar 478 in the Julian calendar. ([昇明二年]春正月,...。丁卯,沈攸之自郢城奔散。己巳,华容县民斩送之。) Song Shu, vol.10. Vol 134 of Zizhi Tongjian added that Shen and his son hanged themselves in an oak forest in the vicinity of Huarong County.
