Stanton is a city in Stanton County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,577 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stanton County.[4] Stanton was platted in 1870.[5] Both the city and county are named after Edwin Stanton, secretary of war for president Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War.[6]
