For copyrighted images to be used on Wikipedia in accordance with the non-free use policy, they must meet all ten requirements of the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. This template and others like it allow for a standardized way of providing this information. This template is an alternate to the {{Non-free use rationale}} template.
This template is designed to be used in conjunction with {{Non-free media data}}. On every non-free image's description page, each article which uses that image must be noted, and given its own non-free use rationale. The {{Non-free use rationale}} template is too cumbersome for images used in multiple articles; in those instances, that template has to be duplicated in its entirety for each use. This template allows for the display of all necessary information without unnecessary redundancies.
