A queen
meat ant burrowing a hole after her
nuptial flight, an important phase in the reproduction of most
ant and some
bee species. Young queens and males stay in their parent colony until conditions are right. During the flight, the queen will usually mate with several males, after which mated queens land and remove their wings. They then attempt to found a new colony.
