The Egyptian Grasshopper (
Anacridium aegyptium) is one of a dozen species that may be called a
locust during its
swarming phase. Common in the southern Europe and around Mediterranean, it is similar to the gregarious phase of the
desert locust (
Schistocerca gregaria), but is clearly distinguished by the striped eyes and, unlike that species, causes little damage.
