Two
houseflies (
Musca domestica) mating. One of the most widely distributed
insects all over the world, females are ready to mate some 36 hours after emerging from the
pupal stage. Normally the female mates only once, and will lay approximately 500 eggs in several batches of about 75 to 150 each.
