Before (left) and after pictures of a French soldier who was fitted with a
craniofacial prosthesis by the
Red Cross. Such prostheses help rehabilitate those with facial defects caused by
disease,
trauma, or
birth defects. They are designed to be as similar as possible to the natural anatomy of each individual, covering, protecting, and disguising facial disfigurements or underdevelopments.
