A photographic
triptych showing
seed dispersal from the seed heads of a
great willowherb. As plants have very limited mobility, they rely upon a variety of
dispersal vectors to transport their seeds. Seeds may be dispersed individually or collectively. Some plants are
serotinous and only disperse their seeds in response to an environmental stimulus. There are five main modes of seed dispersal:
gravity, wind, ballistic, water, and animals.
