Tonkinsky District (Russian: То́нкинский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Tonkinsky Municipal District.[4] It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,018.5 square kilometers (393.2 sq mi).[1] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Tonkino.[1] Population: 9,007 (2010 Census);[2] 11,097 (2002 Census);[6] 12,551 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Tonkino accounts for 56.7% of the district's total population.[2]
