Totowa (pronounced "TO-tuh-wuh"[ 19] ) is a borough in Passaic County , in the U.S. state of New Jersey . As of the 2020 United States census , the borough's population was 11,065,[ 9] [ 10] an increase of 261 (+2.4%) from the 2010 census count of 10,804,[ 20] [ 21] which in turn reflected an increase of 912 (+9.2%) from the 9,892 counted in the 2000 census .[ 22]
Totowa was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 15, 1898, from portions of Wayne Township and the now-defunct Manchester Township .[ 23] [ 24]
