Train seat

A train seat is a seat used in a passenger train's passenger railroad car allowing passengers to sit during their travels. The seats are generally cushioned, providing comfort to the passengers.

The chairs in a coach are usually arranged in pairs of two. The arrangement allows for space for walking and legroom for the passengers, while also taking into consideration the coach's maximum seating capacity. More luxurious railroad coaches provide more legroom or provide recliners. In an open coach the train seats are arranged in one or more open plan areas with a centre aisle.

In most trains there's free or open seating. In case one can make seat reservations, train seating plans are provided in computer reservation systems to allow future train passengers to select their seat, a seat along the aisle or at the window. On platforms passenger information systems generally display coach and seat numbers, allowing passenger to more easily find their reserved seat in the train.
