A favorite strategy among problem editors is to attempt to shift the burden to form a consensus regarding problematic material onto those who challenge said material. These editors correctly calculate that many of Wikipedia's processes to establish consensus are either so broken or so resource consuming that, by pushing the burden to become embroiled in them onto those trying to improve the encyclopedia, they stand a good chance of dissuading the legitimate editors from pursuing those improvements. Far better than their chance of establishing consensus for their problematic material through those same processes.
