Barak Hill is a singer/songwriter from Southwest Missouri. His sound could be compared to Ryan Adams, Freedy Johnston or Gary Louris of The Jayhawks. Not enough folk to be lumped in with the traditional singer/songwriter crowd and a little to much pop to be labeled alt. country. Barak’s sound lies somewhere in the middle, a great mix of rock and folk influences.
Barak has shared the stage with acts as diverse as Big Smith and international recording artists Proto Kaw.
Barak's first CD, a collection of six original songs titled "The Winter EP" was released in January 2004. He recorded and produced the album in his home studio, enlisting the help of friend Scott Eastman for some electric guitar work. It's a straightforward album with very sparse production — vocals and a couple of guitars for the most part. Barak wanted to let the songs stand on their own, without a lot of bells and whistles getting in the way. They're presented just like you might hear them in a little coffeehouse or bar in some Southwest Missouri town.
