The Paintings is a chilean rock band formed in Santiago de Chile by Edmundo Veloso Villalón (former leader of the underground band Zuecokimonomagnético; vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards)[1]) and Patricia Mercado Fuentes (Filmmaker; vocals). Their music has combined elements of the 90's alternative rock and 70's classic rock. Bands suchs as The Smashing Pumpkins, Anathema, The Beatles, Pink Floyd & Rush have been mentioned as an important influence in their unique sound.[2]
Their debut album, "Tiny Tales Of Tides & Suns" (2010) is a conceptual work featuring 10 songs that deal with the matters of life, love and death and compares them with the movement of the stars. The album opens with the instrumental "The Gates Of Dawn, Part 1" (inspired by Pink Floyd's own debut album) and develops from rock songs such as "Turn The Same Road", "Tales From The Same Skies", the epic "Sun Arise" and "Pyramid" (inspired by the album Pyramid by The Alan Parsons Project) to a different set of calmer songs starting with "The Piper's Call" (another reference to Pink Floyd's debut) that finds it peak with the rest of the "Dawn" suite entitled "The Gates Of Dawn, Parts 2-6". According to Veloso, the songs "Go Back Again" and "Morning Birds" have been inspired by ABC's Lost Television series.
"Pyramid is tougher than a trio by Thurston Moore, J.Mascis and Alan Vega altogether." -Pablo Rosenzvaig.
The album is divided in two sides, resembling the usual timing of a Long Play record.
