Hi, my name's Joel Nothman, a Wikipedian when I need to procrastinate. I have been absent from Wikipedia essentially since 2007, not for lack of alternative procrastination. I am an observant Jew living in Sydney, Australia, studying at the University of Sydney, messing my way through a B.Sc./B.A.. I am likely to major in Computer Science (interested in computational linguistics), Linguistics and Classical Hebrew. I have plenty of other committments, so Wikipedia just comes as a procrastination tool- and it is very effective at its job, too. See also my web site. My interests are many, so maybe once I've consolidated a list, I'll write about them. I think most areas of my knowledge that will come into use on Wikipedia, though, are in relation to Judaism/Israel, particularly focussing on Zionism and Zionist history, modern Israel, Hebrew and Israeli linguistics, etc. I enjoy responding to questions on the Help Desk and occasionally the email one too. If I really feel like spending lots of time in the Wikipedia world, I monitor the recent changes with CryptoDerk's Vandal Fighter and deliberate on the day's always-stunning collection of AFDs (see my afd helper script). I have also been working on scripts to make Wikipedia nicer to use and moderate, and am a member of WikiProject User scripts. See my Wikipedia contribs or kate's edit count. |
