Wibu-Systems AG is a company that produces software and hardware for digital rights management and copy protection since 1989. Its headquarters are in Karlsruhe, Germany. History Wibu-Systems was founded in 1989 by Oliver Winzenreid and Marcellus Buchheit; the company name was formed from the first two letters of each founder's last name. The first product was a copy-protection dongle named "Wibu-Box" and was based on parallel port technology. Subsequent versions supported serial and PCMCIA interfaces. In 2003 the company introduced the CodeMeter architecture for software protection, data security, and web access control.
